With the Prius (in the US) and other elec. vehicles, it no longer is simply an added level of ridership or safety...ITS A NECESSARY PRIORITY. And with the emerging presence elec. bikes as well it becomes, well lets just say, life saving. These vehicles being silent and the road noise and bike operating noise (esp HD) checking mirrors and looking over ones shoulder are imperitive.
