Watch Out For Bikers
Here is something different! At 55 I decided I needed to learn how to ride and it had to be a Harley! A friend told me of a friend who had a Sportster 883 for sale. went and sat on her an fell in love, so I got the money and bought her. Had them deliver it to the house and got out the manual went back and forth in the driveway till one day I just keep going! First curve almost got me but I had no one to teach me. After I felt comfortable I took the riders course. My husband saw that I was having fun but not going far so he started looking for a trike said it had to stand on it's own! We found a trike we could afford a nice black Harley so we got it! Then I had to learn to ride that so I could teach HIM! :) Taught him to ride and he now loves riding too! I got a bigger bike but couldn't keep it upright so we just triked it! Sometimes I miss my little sporty but I am having a blast on my new trike!

I bought a 77 ironhead sporty way back and took the course then parked it in the garage. Fast forward 15 years. Got rid of the baggage in my life and looked at that old sporty sad, a bit tattered. Called up the local bike shop said come get her. $3K later she's like brand new. I took the course again and been riding ever since, vowing to never let anyone tell me I cant ride. BTW I now have a 09 1200 XL low and love it. I still have the old 77, and oh yeah Im 60... you're never to old to follow your dream... Ride On!!
Comment by Jenn on August 2, 2011 at 10:43am I've been thinking of taking the course and getting my endorsement. Just not sure yet. Thanks for sharing your story.
Have fun and ride safe.

Comment by NV Wild Child on August 1, 2011 at 3:46pm Right on! Good for you! I'm 47, just got my license. I love being on the back too. But my "friend" insisted I would LOVE riding my own even more. SO HE BOUGHT ME A BIKE! WOOHOO! Can't say no to that. If life begins at 50 then I just got a head start! ;-)

Comment by yellowrose on August 1, 2011 at 1:56pm I started at 53 after the bike I was sharing with my then boyfriend left. I decided if I wanted to keep riding I'd have to do it for myself. My first bike was a 1200 Sportster and I now have a Softail Standard. We'll together along time, she's perfect for me!
