HOT DAMN! I made it back to IA ! Believe me when I tell you I was concerned too. Improvise, adapt and overcome! After I figured out how to cram all my crap in the car and open trunk, my next stop was to find someone to look at the tie downs to make sure they looked ok. A nice fella at Tractor Suppy, a fellow rider, said they looked good. So, off I go. All the while checking the rear view and looking for cops. When I get to Homer NE it's time to check the straps. They had loosened a bit and the bike had some leftward drift going on. S*%t. Well as luck would have it there was a fella eating lunch at the gas station. He was able to get the straps adjusted and we added a strap to prevent more drifting sideways. He shoved her back up so the frame was again resting on the bumper. Away I go! Halfway home now. I'm gonna make it!  Now we all know this was a ticket waiting to happen. I did see 2 state troopers while going thru the Winnabago res.. They didn't notice me. When I got to within 10 or so blocks of home there he sat, facing my lane. As I got close enough for him to see what was trailing behind me, a mini van pulled up along side and blocked his view. NO F&&99ing S^%T !! She is hiding in the alley. Gotta wait for some muscle to get her out the trunk. Whew...I did it.
Now to adress some of the comments, no my foot isn't holding up the tire, the ironing board had to somewhere, and yes, I am a bit nuts..ok, maybe a lot..LOL.
And I too once owned a '70's Gremlin! dijon mustard yellow, the truckers called me the 'lil brown tennis shoe as I zipped across TX in my younger days. I Miss that car.

Thank you so much for advice as to where to start! i have started to remove headlight as it will blink out so i smack it and it'll come back on, I have lost turn signals the switch is fried/worn dunno. I took the funky old lights off. i did find a manual to download but i'll research who it's from. this has been very hard to find. she's an '81 yama-jama..my Alice. someone has sugested the magneto and coil needs to b replaced. she'd start one day not the next and the new battery was dead. the engine & tranny are fine. I had to push her home yesterday, i just moved here to a friends and had to leave alice in the parking lot. we get nasty wind here in IA so she was blown over. i'd been asking for help to get her moved. It took 3 of us to get her in the trunk, a truck and ratchet straps would be much easier/safer. no luck. i pushed her 26 blocks. thought i'd been pulled thru a fence and beat with the boards! i'll take you up on tech help..;)

1. You got her home
2. You did not get a ticket.
3. You are the proud owner of a motorcycle.
Now, buy yerself a good manual. Clymer rocks, Chiltons suk (jmo) and a factor manual is the best. Might be U could find one online. I imagine you have already done this. It's a Yama-jama, right? Have owned 2 & both were good machines.
My suggestion? Remove headlight, seat, side panels and gas tank. Look for burnt or frayed spots. Also any splices made by previous owners. Then @ all the connectors. I'm a retired electrician so if ya have any Q's just take a pic and send it to me & I'll help if I can!
Thanx for the Friend!

Kat, You do not have to know how to fix the problem. Just start looking and asking questions. But if you are not careful you may end up learning something. Don't go another season without her.

SportyScott, thankx man, I saw a lot of doubt and fear in the eyes of friends and family, but I've been known to do the wacky & unusual. I'm not really sure how to fix the problem, but I am going another season without her! ;)

Congrats!!! People these days just don't seem to appreciate good old fashioned grit, determination and improvisation. Now, get that baby's electricals fixed so she'll be ready when warm weather returns!
