Texas Marine said… Got home around 3:30 this morning from Arkansas and places beyond. The sprocket is a god-send on freeways and turnpikes. I completed the run mentioned below while attending the Blues Bikes and Barbecue rally in Fayetteville, Arkansas. New tires on the bike but am having a front wheel laced for Wide White Sidewall tires on my next replacement.
My bike has become this black hole that sucks up all my money. *chuckle*

Texas Marine said… 2nd tank turned in a 47.2 mpg run...still with a combination of city and highway riding. The front fender is repaired and re-installed and all is right in the world. *chuckle*
Added Kuryakyn ISO off-set freeway foot-rests and a custom handlebar-mount for my HTC Thunderbolt Smartphone which, when combined with the stereo Bluetooth headset I ride with and the external 12-volt power supply, allows me to listen to my music while I ride and follow the GPS navigation...or answer a phone call (*grin*)
Texas Marine said… The sprocket completely changes the feel of the bike on trips and alters my shift-pattern to be more inline with a HD Softail 88. At 70mph, my engine is relaxed and purring like a kitten. I should have changed it to 38-tooth years ago. I got a solid 48 mpg on the first tank - with a combination of freeway and city driving - and will know what my 2nd is by this afternoon.
I broke my front fender at their mounting points and have had it off for the past 3 days laying in epoxy-over-fiberglass mesh in my effort to repair it.
Thanks for the friend invite!
Texas Marine said… I installed a battery tender earlier this year. I mention that because of other attachments that plug into the battery tender plug...one of which is a 12-volt socket I got at Auto-Zone for around $4. Another is the small portable air-compressor/flat repair kit I carry in my saddlebags. Using the battery tender plug means I don't have to have a whole bunch of stuff added to my battery terminals and simplifies things greatly.
The videos posted are taken with a Sony using a Ram-Mount handlebar mounting system but I think I'm going to upgrade to a helmet-cam. I took my bike off the lift yesterday evening and hope to finish cleaning it up today..
Texas Marine said… You're gonna like it! I've had mine up on the lift installing Kuryakin off-set ISO freeway pegs and getting her cleaned up. I'm also going to install a 12-volt power plug as well as a handlebar RAM-mount for my GPS. The 38-tooth sprocket is without doubt the best thing I've done to it so far though, and when I get her down off the lift I plan on taking her out to stretch her legs. The bike runs at such a more relaxed rpm that I can't help but think that it will add miles to the life of the engine. I should have done this years ago!
Texas Marine said… PK, the change to the 38-tooth rear sprocket and 120-link chain is amazing! The power-plant and drive-train feel much more relaxed at all speeds. At freeway speeds of around 70 mph (5th gear) I can hear my engine at a more relaxed and slower rpm. 4th gear is completely useable to freeway and turnpike speeds, with 5th becoming more of an "over-drive." In fact, when the new chain comes up for replacement, I may consider going to an 18-tooth sprocket on the front.
I am on of these guys that keep a pretty close watch on my fuel mileage so I'll run a couple of tanks through it and let you know how the mileage does.
