Comment by REDS CYCLE on March 21, 2012 at 9:33am SOMETHING ELSE THAT WILL CAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM IS. IN SIDE THE ROCKER BOXES OR UMBRELLA GASKETS . IF THEY ARE HARD THEY WANT SEAT OFF AND WILL ALLOW OIL TO GET IN TO THOSE LINES GOING TO THE BREATHER
Comment by T-Bone on March 21, 2012 at 12:51am For those who are having oil coming from the air cleaner and blowing back onto your leg and/or oil tank, it is caused by the re-breather setup on the Sportster. The two huge bolts holding the ham can a/c unit on the jugs are banjo bolts. They allow "breathing" of the oil which, when it condenses out of the air, pools in the filter and or can (cover). You either need to clean that thing regularly or change your air cleaner set up like I did.
I put silicone gasket sealer between each layer of the re-breather tube set up to ensure ZERO oil seepage and ran the hose down over the starter, across the bike to the left side and out under the bike in front of the swing arm.
No more oil on the jugs, air cleaner, oil tank, my leg or the ol' lady's chaps.
Not to mention, you're not burning that fouled mixture by routing it back into the air cleaner and carb.
I was surprised when Harley -Davidson in my town told me I will be the first to have order a electronic fuel gage to be added to my Sporty ….
