the question is - anyone had experience of this and is it safe for the remainder of the chrome?Obviously worked for this guy:-

There's a product out that's called Evapo-Rust but you must let it soakfor 12 hours.I've used carb cleaner and steal wool and have had good results and din't hurt the remaining chrome

 

carb cleaner thats interesting - what did you do?

Tabasco sauce & a soft rag .

Sprayed it on the rust and rubbed the area with the steel wool and when done;washed with soap and water,dryed and polised.

Interesting;I'll have to try that.I know firemen clean brass with kecthup.

I've heard of using aluminum foil but never tried it.  I have used CLR to clean rust sport on my wheels.
