Watch Out For Bikers
Motorcycle-specific roadside checkpoints would be prohibited, according to wording included by Wisconsin Rep. James Sensenbrenner in the federal highways bill, in mark-up today in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Sensenbrenner applauded the committee's inclusion of his wording in the bill, stating that, "We need to focus on proven methods of motorcycle safety, including crash prevention, rider education, and training and proper licensing. Motorcycle-only checkpoints are an intrusive governmental overreach that place an undue burden on riders while doing little to actually improve safety. It is encouraging to see that the Transportation Reauthorization Bill will encourage more efficient use of taxpayer dollars and smart motorcycle safety policy."

Permalink Reply by BDR on February 6, 2012 at 6:20pm It's called profiling. All bikers must be bad people, or they would not be on a bike. Thats like saying all people of foreign descent are bad.
COP: "Look at that. There is a black man behind the wheel of that Caddy. Better pull him over because he is black
Caddy driver: "Yes officer."
Cop: Licence, registration and insurance please."
Caddy driver: "Yes officer."
Cop: "Ummmm...geee...sorry Mr. Freeman."

GET A GRIP NEWYORK! and as a side note on the o.t. for the state police who will only be doing this on OVERTIME,any one see what they make yearly?enough to make ur jaw drop and now they get overtime to harass us!!! Permalink Reply by iron ridin cowgirl on February 7, 2012 at 5:09am A letter was sent to one of our officers of ontario county ABATE from a ny state senator and in the letter was a description of a bill that would allow for a riders dna to be collected at a motorcycle only stop/check point.no one has tried to pass this or introduce this yet,but some one is definatly kicking around the idea and wanting to get this bill some momentum, the kicker is you do not have to be arrested to have the dna collected,it will just be collected. huge violation of rights, why? bigger dna base needed to solve murders that have gone cold.that is what the premise is on that.why target the motorcycle riding population?are they not going to take dna from anyone else?so now we are criminals and now we should be suspected of murders. more harassment that is unnecessary and likely to once again cost the taxpayer.

Permalink Reply by The dusty buffalo on February 7, 2012 at 9:03am On March 9th, GSP troopers will conduct the "B.E.A.S.T." event. The Biker Education Awareness Safety Team consists of state troopers patrolling Interstate 95 for a day. The troopers will stop motorcyclists and will check their helmets, among other equipment, to see that they are Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) approved. Trooper Harris said the reason for this 2nd annual event isn't to ticket bikers, rather it’s to get them to be safer, if possible.
