I'm firing up the boycott Facebook page again, as Georgia plans to harass bikers on their way to Bike Week 2012.  We need to voice our displeasure with our dollars!  If we don't stay in GA hotels, eat, and we purchase as little fuel as possible in Georgia, the Georgia businesses will complain to their state Gov't, and this won't happen again.  If the "safety checkpoints" cause a loss of revenue to the state, it WILL stop. Join the Facebook page and let them know!

Yeah what crutch said after what I said then snipe said too. And yeah what capri said after I said what I said.
We at Georgia abate are trying to get more information on the check points. I hate that it was reported in an article about my friend who got killed because of a cage which clearly dispels the reasons they want check points. Sheesh.

Good answer...

A much better and more scenic ride,  Especially from Jax down.  Great suggestion Capri!

You can avoid I95 completely and still come down the east coast of Ga on RT17 it sort of parallels 95 but is only a two lane road with a speed limit of 55mph.  It runs thru several smaller Georgia towns. If you stay on it all  the way into Yulee Florida You can pick up A1A there and it is a straight shot down to Main Street Daytona Beach....It will take a lot longer but it is a lot less stressful.

I understand that its not the businesses' decision directly, but the choices of the state's citizen's elected officials, and the state gains income from the income and sales taxes.  If the businesses are effected, the elected officials will have to do something, or else they won't get re-elected.

Why? Because when the business community is impacted, they will bitch at the pols about it. They are more likely to listen to business owners than to us.

i didn't vote for them. we have a highly conservative state government here. this was a way to spark some funding for the state GSP through a grant that was available from NHTSA

the businesses won't notice if no motorcycles stop for fuel on 95 unless they are directly informed of this issue, their business will be as usual. they will eventually notice that their income from that "time period" was lower than at the same time last year, but i don't believe it's as noticeable from their stand point because they're so spread out the length of the state. the harley shops in savannah and brunswick will probably notice, but i bet most people who would stop there will stop there anyway because they have to have their dose of harley shop regardless of what the state GSP is doing. and given that the majority of people head to daytona in their trucks, toy haulers and trailers, those folks will or won't stop because they have full tanks from s.c. or would stop anyway because it's time to fill their tanks. like i said, we have a state ABATE meeting saturday 11th and this issue will be discussed.

I live 20 miles north of the Georgia \ Florida line along I-75. Every county\community along I-75 gets a large amount of its revenue from speeders.  If you drive 5+, don’t think for a minute they won’t stop you.  If you are in a construction zone the fines are even higher.  And heaven help you if you are driving fast enough to be designated as a super speeder.  You may be going to Florida, but your cash is staying in Georgia!

I always try to avoid the interstates unless time is the issue. Some of the best "Mom n pops" type eaterys are off the beaten path...
