Watch Out For Bikers
I'm firing up the boycott Facebook page again, as Georgia plans to harass bikers on their way to Bike Week 2012. We need to voice our displeasure with our dollars! If we don't stay in GA hotels, eat, and we purchase as little fuel as possible in Georgia, the Georgia businesses will complain to their state Gov't, and this won't happen again. If the "safety checkpoints" cause a loss of revenue to the state, it WILL stop. Join the Facebook page and let them know!

Permalink Reply by The dusty buffalo on February 7, 2012 at 3:48pm i have to work that day. i plan on leaving early, armed with a bullet point hand out from the NHTSA report on two vehicle motorcycle accidents. some good data in that report!!! I plan on riding up and down i95 trying to get pulled over. all my papers and helmet are in order. they might start ignoring me
Permalink Reply by Capri142 on February 7, 2012 at 11:00pm I hear about this boycott every year. I have a good friend who lives in Columbia SC, he and his wife ride down to Daytona for just about every Bike Week and Octoberfest, they have yet to be stopped by any LEOS in Georgia. They ride a Harley Electraglide, wear all the gear and keep to the speed limit +5 so that may have something to do with it.

Last year I fuelled up at the last exit in SC, and drove all the way through Georgia w/o stopping.
I'm supportive against the Georgia plan, even if I'm close to Daytona. What this amounts to is a border tax! What a bunch of buttholes would enforce such an insult to the two wheel community. Buy, little to nothing in Georgia and welcome to Florida, riders.

Thanks! Georgia would be better to plan their own rally, and extend their hospitality to those traveling through their state...

Permalink Reply by The dusty buffalo on February 8, 2012 at 10:44am we need to collaborate with south carolina, there's only one route south that evades 95 on the eastern side. but it would add almost 2 hours to the trip. also, georgia businesses are not connected to the powers that be that funded this check point program. we are having a state ABATE meeting this saturday (11th) and this will be a topic of discussion on how to handle this year's check points.

Capri, I don't know how you hear about it every year since Georgia just got funded a little over a year ago to do the motorcycle only "safety" checkpoints. Last year was the first year implemented at two locations on the freeways. The stationary sites were marked in order to pull over every single bike. This year the ones we are aware of are on 95then and roving. They could also be setting up on 75, but the info hasn't been released.Sorry about that, wrong choice of words I guess. Seems like I read so many posts about this on other forums last yer, it just seems like years......

Permalink Reply by Capri142 on February 8, 2012 at 9:51pm You can avoid I95 completely and still come down the east coast of Ga on RT17 it sort of parallels 95 but is only a two lane road with a speed limit of 55mph. It runs thru several smaller Georgia towns. If you stay on it all the way into Yulee Florida You can pick up A1A there and it is a straight shot down to Main Street Daytona Beach....It will take a lot longer but it is a lot less stressful.
